Men’s mental health services in Ballarat
Barking Mad Company is passionate about supporting people who traditionally find it hard to engage in mental health treatment to feel welcome. One of those groups is men. Whilst we’ve come a long way, it can still be challenging for men and boys to speak up about their mental health challenges and feel supported to seek help when they need it. Yet men are overwhelmingly overrepresented in occurrences of suicide in Australia, highlighting the need for men-focused mental health services.
Mental health therapy for men
Men are welcome here. You can be young, elderly, or somewhere in between. When you visit us, you can wear what you like and speak how you like. If you turn up in high-vis and want to chill out with a therapy dog in our bean bags while you talk to us, you’re welcome. If you need time to work up to talking about your challenges, that’s cool. If you’d prefer to meet for an early walk and talk with us, also cool. You can also meet with us before you book any sessions to help you feel at ease with your psychologist and meet our therapy dogs. It doesn’t matter how you visit us, as long as you visit us. We want to help remove the stigma around men seeking the support they need to achieve positive mental health.
At Barking Mad Company, we recognise that traditional therapy settings don’t always suit everyone, which is why we offer flexible and approachable options tailored to men. Whether it’s dog-assisted therapy for men, a casual chat while sitting with a therapy dog, or an active walk-and-talk session, we create a space where you can engage in therapy in a way that feels right for you. Animal therapy for men’s mental health has proven benefits, including reducing stress and building trust, and our therapy dogs help make sessions feel more relaxed and comfortable. However you choose to engage, we’re here to support you in taking the first step towards positive mental well-being.
Be sure to have a look at our other animal therapy services and treatment areas, including schema therapy and assessment and diagnosis.
